Fanny Laurin

Registered Psychotherapist

(Qualifying)

Therapy can be a daunting experience and it can be difficult to find a therapist whose style matches what you need. This search can lead many to give up or get discouraged.

I utilize a holistic and eclectic approach that fits into what my client needs instead of having my client fit into one singular approach. Everybody is unique and so is the care that they need. I work collaboratively with clients to build a partnership where we create and adapt the best plan of care together. Result: I offer a safe and flexible environment that is created with the client to best fit their needs and grow with them to provide the best care possible in the least stressful manner possible.

  • I like to write. I had a difficult upbringing and from an early age writing was a way to escape and deal with my emotions.
  • My favourite quote is: “What seems nonadaptive and self-harming in the present was, at some point in our lives, an adaptation to help us endure what we then had to go through.” —Gabor Mate
  • I like swimming, reading, and playing the bass guitar.

More than just work

What influences my work:
I am part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and fall within the neurodivergent label due to my having ADHD. These associations have led me to gain knowledge and experience for treating myself and my clients. When I was a teenager, I was very into sports, and began restricting my diet at an early age. When I entered early adulthood I was interested in acting and modelling and had unrealistic expectations of what my body should look like. Today, I am considered a full-body person but have finally become comfortable as who I am. My struggles have led me to study under a leading expert in this field and now I want to bring that knowledge to my clients.

  • For me I find comfort being in nature, that's where I feel most grounded and most like myself. I believe that nature connects all living beings and we can all tune into it no matter where we are.
  • My favourite quote: “Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light. Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.” ― Brené Brown

More than just work

What do I like most about working at The Balanced Practice:
We are privileged to have a diverse team of health practitioners that can aid clients in many different modalities that are all important to increase the chances of having a long-lasting positive outcome. The support and care of the team is a great place to learn and grow. I feel competent clients are getting the best care.

The Balanced Practice has evolved to a team of registered dietitians and therapists on a mission to support folks in finding their perfect balance between food, body and mind. We believe that we cannot talk about food without addressing our mindset, beliefs and emotions. We work with our clients to help them walk away from diets, recover from their eating disorder and learn to reconnect to themselves  so they can live their fullest life.

Our approach is weight inclusive, sexuality & gender affirming, trauma-informed and anti diet culture. We firmly believe that health is not reserved for any body type and that your recovery is possible.

the balanced practice?

Why

The Balanced Practice was created to fill the gap & INNOVATE THE WAY ED TREATMENT IS DONE.

The Balanced Practice is a place where you can be seen for you are, supported without judgement and empowered with evidence based & Lived Experience informed personalized treatment.

Because life is too short to struggle with your relationship with food & your body.

The Balanced Practice was founded by Marie-Pier, who after struggling with an eating disorder, noticed a gap in our healthcare system. Through her recovery, she noticed that treatment was often not inclusive, non collaborative or client centered and often offered only short term support.
